I have had the same experience as CarefulBuilder.

It isn't there before they issue your statement and it's like instantaneously added to the statement as part of the automatic statement cutting process.

Invisible. And then posted. First statement.

Interesting. I called AMEX and the CSR told me something different. He said if I don't already see it (I use the app to monitor the activities on my card) it'll be on my 2nd or 3rd statement. He sounded pretty clueless about the AF tbh. I expected a lot more from customer service. Not impressed so far.

I have heard of a few exceptions when a person is getting the Platinum via a PC. In those cases, the AF often takes a few statements to appear.

Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

I PCed to the Platinum. I had some very pro rated amount pull a fee months after I got the card, but I assume it was closer to anniversary date and that's why it happened that way... Either way, I wasn't including that in my answer because the OP did not PC.

So yea this morning I checked my account and bam out of nowhere my statement balance was x,xxx.xx$ + the AF
Just like you guys, the moment they sent me my statement it just appeared out of thin air. I'm actually glad it's out the way now.

Haha. Yes. It's part of their shock and a we strategy with the Platinum.
