American Express Chargeback

Postby vliou » Mon May 10, 2010 9:03 pm

I have disputed two charges lately (one 1.5 weeks ago) - AMEX tells me i'm not responsible for the charge but it doesn't show up as a credit on my online transactions (unlike MBNA). Is this normal? Thanks!

Once you dispute an item on your amex they give the original merchant 30days to respond. Even though you don't have to pay the disputed balance it may remain on your cc however should not appear on the actual statement.

I had that once with Amex as well and once I provided them a police report number they removed it immediately.

Take 30 minutes and file a police report and it will be easy.

why would it not always be removed immediately. if a charge is fraudulent doesn't the credit card have a legal obligation that requires removal of the charges immediately?

Although not specific to an American Express chargeback, here is a guide to the credit card dispute process that you should find helpful. It should answer a number of your questions but if you have others please feel free to post them below.

Good luck,

That is not normal. When I have had a chargeback on my American Express card the credit appears on the website within 48 to 72 hours.
