You won't be able to upgrade a BCE as you can't product change from a credit card to a charge card, but if you're getting a Plat you might as well get the bonus IMO.

Thanks Vattené.
After reading and researching I think I have a good shot. I have clean history, the only thing I did though was I applied for the Amazon Credit. They gave me a $200 limit. One month later I closed it... I should have just left it..
Im going to wait until after Christmas, so I can charge a bunch and pay it all off, then apply by contacting AMEX. Not just filling out the application online. See if they can do it with a soft hit, and then they can see me charge 3-4k in one month and pay it all off... The BCE card had 15 months no interest, so paying it off in full hasn't been a priority. It is now. lol

Closing that toy limit Amazon card may have been a mistake, but the history will still be reported for 10 years so it won't do a lot of damage.

As previously mentioned, the SP will only happen if you are denied the card. It's a nice perk from Amex you definitely want if you don't get it, but it will certainly be a HP if you get approved.

A lot of anecdotal evidence suggests Amex strongly likes PIFers relative to other lenders. If you're convinced the Plat is a good value for you but aren't in a hurry to get it anyway, I would get as much PIF history on that BCE as you can before applying just to be safe. Also since you are waiting a bit, keep your eyes peeled for a target offer. Make sure in your account settings, you have the marketing options turned on. Not saying it will happen or is even likely, but if you get a better introductory bonus offer shortly after applying you'll kick yourself!

Good luck! A lot of people have the impression that a Platinum is hard to get because of the steep AF and "prestige" marketing, but as far as underwriting it is no more difficult than a Green (or any other charge) card.

No reason for 90 days. Just time to let history report some more to the CB's.

Went ahead and applied today. Decided I couldn't wait. Applied through the website while logged into my Blue Cash Everyday card. Instantly approved. They say I will have the card in 1-2 days... Really? I am excited because this is the last of the big three cards that I wanted. The only one I don't have that might offer SOME benefit is the Citi Prestige... But the only way I am applying for that is with a big target offer...
Anyway, when I applied for the plat, I was at 710 Fico on their (AMEX) site, 705 EQU 706 Trans (Credit Karma) and showing 30% Utilization (although I'm really at 15%) But I have a balance on my AMEX blue cash everyday card of $5000. Income in the 6 figures. 2 years credit history, 10 Inquiries reporting.
No hard credit pull. No alerts from Life Lock, Credit Karma, Capital One or Chase.

The HP will happen. Just hasn't come through yet is all. The only time you don't (always) get a HP from Amex is when you are denied.

Congrats on the approval, and yes, they usually automatically expedite cards for existing cardholders. :)

Hp has still not happened. Nothing on my credit at all. Amex approved me for the charge card while having the Credit card. Had the credit card for 12 months when I applied for the charge. No credit hit. I have already hit the min spend as well. Do they still make you wait the full three months?

They say they'll make you wait 6-8 weeks after the spend is completed but my personal experience has been that the bonus actually comes very promptly...

I didn't get a HP on my report when I got my BCP back in October. I was instantly approved. Maybe it's because I've been a long-time cardholder?

I got my bonus immediately as soon as I met the spending requirement.
