American Express Charge Card DUE date

Postby BJP » Tue Apr 20, 2010 7:07 pm

Has anyone else noticed that they now have a DUE date on their AMEX bill? I have always had a "please pay by" date of MM/02/YY and was told that I can pay up to a month after my closing date. I have taken advantage of this several times while traveling abroad. Does anyone know if this new due date is any more binding then my previous agreement to pay no later then a month after my closing date?

Actually I am a little confused by the due date for AMEX. My statement has one date (the 30th of whatever month) but when I log on to the online site the due date is given as the 15th of the following month. I have always paid by the earlier date to be safe but do not understand why they are not consistent.

I no longer have any American Express charge cards, but I do remember it working that way as in the "please pay by." I vaguely remember encountering this same situation years ago- the discrepancy in the online due date and the please pay by date. I think their customer service said the online due date was just because there had to be some kind of date there and to not worry about it, but call them up to find out for sure.
