Did you all have EXCELLENT credit when you applied?

Postby Elijahmex » Thu Oct 08, 2015 4:40 pm

The question is specifically for charge cards. I am also curious to know how many CC you had when you applied and length of credit history if that's not too much to ask for.

I applied last month for a PRG and was denied bc of the following reasons
(1) Derogatory mark on my report -> has been removed from TU & the other 2 in the last 2-3 weeks so my record looks clean now :lift:
(2) Too few accounts -> only have 1 cc, still trying to figure out what to get next
(3) The length of time my accounts have been established -> It's only been 8 months
(4) There is no recent information about installment loans on your report -> What does this mean?? It's bad that I do not have loans???
(5) Too many inquiries in the last 12 month -> This human at Macy's ran my credit twice when I told her I just wanted the store card and NOT the CC and that is what appears on my CR. Other than that, the Amex is the ONLY thing I applied for

I am thinking about opening two accounts by the end of the year before I app again with AMEX sometime next year. Other than reason #2 and maybe length (but i've heard people got in with 6.5/7months of credit) I don't see why I would be denied again. In 8 months I went from a 580 to a 703 TU, no late payments, CC utilization is good, pretty much on the right path to greatness IMO :ppp

What are your stories and your thoughts??

My case is not unusual. A lot of people get an Amex with a thin, clean file.

So I hear.

Mine is really thin though with only 1 CC. Add to that I had a derog mark from 2010-11 which has been deleted thank god so hopefully next time I'll get it!

What kind of derog?

Did the derog only recently appear? You hadn't checked your credit for a long time before applying for the Amex? Or you thought it was old enough to not be a big deal?

It was a civil court case claiming that I owed 1,497$ to capital one since 07/2010 however (1) I am a US citizen. Left in 1994 and came back in 02/2015 & (2) Never had an account with CapOne until 02/2015. I did not find out about this until this past summer when I ordered my free credit reports. Called TU, EX & Equifax and asked to lauch investigations thinking it was ID Theft and within 10 days it was removed from all 3.

Amex charge card was my second card on my last credit rebound. Currently my oldest continuous account.
Sapphire Reserve: travel & dining (almost everything until I meet my initial spend)
Blue Cash Preferred: groceries & gas
Freedom: 5% cats
Double Cash: everything else

I'd also add that even with a prequalified PRG invite for 50k MRs (which was better than the general public offer at the time), I was not instantly approved. The Amex website had approved me by the next morning, though.

What baddies did you have at the time, and how old were they?

you might want to call Amex and ask for a recon. They only do it in the case of a significant error or change. Explain that you had a chargeoff that was found to be incorrect. They might give you a second look.
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k
