Platinum now 100K, SPG 30K, AA Executive 75K, Helppp!

Postby Nixon » Wed Aug 26, 2015 10:43 pm

So after nearly 5 months in the garden, I have decided there are too many juicy offers out there to ignore. I unfroze EX as I knew I was going to have to eventually.....I have a Dillema.

Adding to that, EX is at 678, one small collection approx 6.5+yrs old but started reporting in April. Do I even stand a chance? I could clear over 4K in travel rewards on just these three on potentially 2 HP.

Have you closed any cards with Amex or Citi lately - behavior that might indicate you're just after bonuses and are going to be unprofitable for them?

I don't know what your travel habits are, and I only recall a few of your other cards, so I can't really give much advice there.

Are you just looking at the bonuses? Or considering perks, too?

And what other travel cards do you have right now?

Bonuses mostly.

Most of the perks I already get through some card or another although the SPG would be a keeper for me 100%.

AC access thru Prestige even though am just an AU so have to be traveling with wife.

Cent Lounge I can pay the $50 for if I had to but also have Priority Pass.

Why keep SPG? It looks to me like it needs a lot of ongoing spending to get good value from it after the bonus, and you and your wife have a good record of getting promos on other cards.

The points are worth pretty good value. If we had no other promo going on SPG are still earned 1x which translates to 1.25x transfer to AA or other airline, which I can easily get over 2.5cpp.

That's true. I find that with IHG, Marriott, Hyatt (URs), and Hotel Tonight I have enough ways to book hotel rooms. I don't expect I'd earn much with minimal spending through Starwood's loyalty program.

For flights, I can put my trust in sheer quantities of MRs and URs to find something - or just pay cash and save the points.

I'm getting curious to see the Amex Schwab cards. I've been liking Schwab more recently, and a shiny, new, un-nerfed card program could be lucrative and convenient.
