Amex and I do not have a good history when it comes to NYC Restaurant Week.
I was about to go into NYC. My schedule was a bit flexible, Restaurant Week was going on, and I intended to participate for 2-3 meals and use my CSP. I was working on CSP minimum spend at the time, but would have easily hit the $4k spend without the meals. Restaurant Week had already been going on for a few weeks at this time.
Just as I was about to go, I got an email from Amex that if I enrolled my cards, I could get $5 off each meal. So I followed the email link - and was told the offer was already fully subscribed. So I don't save the $5/meal and buy my program-eligible meals with CSP. I also used Freedom for 5.5% at Starbucks.
I had two trips into the city. Before the trips, I called Amex and asked if the promo was going on again for the current NYC Restaurant Week. I told the CSR how it bothered me that I couldn't participate last time, and didn't want to be left out again. I said it was an irritating practice to email an offer to a customer when the customer can't actually sign up for it. I asked if there was a similar $5 off promotion going on, and if there was any way at all I could sign up. The CSR just told me that the marketing department determined who was eligible for that. So I paid for the meals with my CSP.
Early August 12, 2015:
Restaurant Week ends in less than 72 hours. I'm not in, and not going into, NYC.
The Amex welcome screen invites me to enroll my cards.
*A point of clarity - each "Restaurant Week" is actually 3-4 weeks long.*
**And if there is a reliable, non-invitation, open-to-all-cards way to sign up for this in the future, please let me know!**
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when
