I had plenty of pet food from a bulk purchase on a previous offer, so I didn't really want to buy any more and I let the offer deadline sneak up on me. I just got a $10 gift card online probably a day or two before the deadline, thinking if it didn't work I wouldn't be out too much. The transaction didn't even post until well over a week later when the statement cut, so I figured it wouldn't happen. About a week after that the offer did come through, though. The offers come with so much language in the terms to protect themselves, I wouldn't have blamed Amex if I didn't get it - but I was really happy with them! I think I technically shouldn't have gotten it, so I guess it's possible it may be revoked later? I'll see.
Amex offers generally cover any merchandise purchased in-store, unless the transaction is processed differently like the Sam's Club offer (the store uses a different merchant code for new memberships). I bought a Walmart gift card on a Walmart.com offer and still received the cash back (and it will billed like any other Walmart.com transaction). I still read the lengthy terms, and they excluded business gift cards (which are likely billed differently). I received the credit shortly after the charge went through. You shouldn't have any trouble with the credit.
