So you got a letter saying you're going to receive points that you never earned. And then they rightfully didnt credit you with the points, you get upset? They made a mistake and they were never your points to begin with!

I kinda get where Member is coming from, though. Anytime a company overpromises and underdelivers is annoying -- even moreso when it's a company from which you've come to expect higher standards. Also, it would make me a little crazy wondering if I actually *did* earn some extra points and AmEx forgot to credit them after sending its letter -- or whether the letter itself was a mistake. And then I'd wonder, in the back of my mind, if my point count was ever accurate going forward.
