Approved for Amex Green!

Postby Arielnyc2006 » Sun May 17, 2015 12:50 am

I applied for the Amex Green this past Tuesday and was instantly approved! Took just like 10 seconds  Let me describe my credit profile to assist people that are considering the Green/Gold. When I applied I had 8 months of paid history with Discover (it card) 500CL, 4% util, one inquiry (discover) and no other items on my credit report. When I applied my score were: 770 Equifax, 750 Exp and 770 Transunion. In 6 months I plan to apply for the Amex ED card! I should be able to get it with 6 months history with green?

PS I want to thank Carefulbuilder14 for steering me away from secured cards when I was establishing history with Discover!

PSS The night before I applied, Discover doubled my Cl with an auto CLI to $1,000!

IMHO you should try for the ED now. They will use the same pull so you really have nothing to lose.

Congrats! I'm glad you had the patience to avoid secured and no-rewards cards.

I actually got the EDP recently and have found it very useful. I plan to move over some of the BCE limit.

Green is good while you continue to build your history, but I suspect that you'll find ED a better overall value than Green in the long run.

Thanks again for being so helpful, my plan is to build my history with Amex with the green and then get the ED in about 6 months (Dec '15), my original plan was to get the BCE but it seems to be a tad tougher to get than the ED, I could be wrong though. Once I started looking at the ED I really started to like it though. I can't wait to have that nice transparent card!

I'm telling you, apply for it now and ask them to use the same HP they used for the green. I can't see any risk, or downside. Even if you are denied they will give you a clear list of reasons that you can focus on for the next 6 months. You won't waste a HP. The absolute worst thing that could happen is your AoAA takes a bigger hit from 2 new accounts. If you are happy waiting 6 months as it is even a denial isn't a bad thing.

Unless someone thinks I'm off my rocker... which I may be.
