C. Opened Platinum as a new account and then closed PRG

A. Nope. Platinum is more so they would just bill you the pro-rated difference I can't see you getting a refund there.
B. Yep. They will probably refund the pro-rated remainder
C. Probably but the new Platinum fee will far outweigh whatever refund you receive.

Good to know!

I'll keep PRG until I have more specific plans and a better knowledge of which perks I could use among premium $400-ish AF cards (Platinum, Prestige, Ritz). For the PRG airfare credit, I'll probably pick American or Delta. If I don't break even with perks/offers/credits I will probably lose no more than $50 on it, and that could be worth not having to open Platinum as a new account later.

I should probably get a regular Arrival soon, just to have the boring no-AF Chip+PIN part settled before I pick a premium card for the trip.
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

If that's the case rather than close it I'd downgrade to Green or even Senior Green just to keep it open in case down the road you want to upgrade. It could happen, and if that's the case and you close it, no backdate. You did mention wanting Platinum one day - might be worth leaving open.

Also I didn't get the best sign up bonus offers for my cards either. But my Amex EDP is currently my high limit card. And they send offers all the time for their Business Platinum, which I can't use as I have no business, but with time they really do loosen things up.

I'm not fond of their offshore support (though it's the best offshore support I've seen but that's not saying much as they have never gotten what I asked them to do right yet) and I don't like the fact they removed backdating which means I'm not very likely to add another Amex card, but they do have a place in my wallet and my spend.

When did backdating stop? I backdated my PRG earlier this year.

American Express BCE [$20K]
Discover it [$18.5K]
Barclaycard Arrival World MC [$6K]

Citi Best Buy Visa [$2K]

~ 3/21. Verify on your reports that it is backdated. My wife's new Platinum just missed it by days. App and approval were prior to 3/21 but the account didn't report until after so it didn't qualify for backdating.

I know Senior Green doesn't have MR points, but does it get offers like Small Business Saturday as well as more regular offers like "spend $X at merchant Y, get $Z back"? My EDP has been nice, so far, in this respect. I intend to use EDP a lot for offers and everyday spend. If some of the EDP offers can be duplicated on the PRG, then keeping PRG would make more sense.

Interesting. I linked both my amex cards so that the offers I get, i can only choose to add it to one card or the other. I guess if both your cards arent linked, then you can take adv of the offers by using it 2x. That would have been helpful for me on NYC restaurant wk.

If by "linked" you mean I can see all my cards with one user ID and password, then my cards are linked. I use tabbed browsing to prevent the offers from disappearing on other cards.

Still, some offers are limited to one or two of my three cards.

When and how did you get the restaurant week offer? My frustrating experience is here and I'd appreciate any advice:http://creditcardforum.com/topic12160.html
