I looked on the website to see how many I had earned from using my loyalty card elsewhere, and saw 32 points for a $320 Macy's purchase.

That's 0.1%.

I guess Mobil is the way to earn at 1 cent/gallon. That's at least about 0.4%,

The only way to earn a respectable ("respectable" in the context of the Plenti program, that is - I believe it is 1%) return when spending at Macy's is to pay with a Macy's card. I sure as hell won't be doing that. Especially if the purchase is online, where Discover (historically) always has a Deal available.

I've been earning over 1,000 points a month just from Hulu. As long as they keep their promotions it will be worth it to me to slowly earn them until I do get something from Macy's.

I used them for the first time last month to get $35.00 off the bill. It doesn't take any more effort than occasionally checking for the Hulu offers posting, so I'm happy enough with it.

I used Discover Deals for that Macy's purchase, and recently got the email confirming the cash back bonus that will post to my account. It was based off the total purchase, not the amount I actually charged to Discover, so that was a nice little surprise. That alone makes it preferable to using my Macy's card for the extra points.

I thought I was supposed to get some points for watching (or, rather, queuing and playing in the background) certain shows on Hulu, but I didn't get them. Do they take a while to post? Or there's some extra step?

It normally takes two days for the points to post once you've finished watching the shows.

Yeah give it a couple of days. I 've never had a problem with points posting. Also make sure the show qualifies - each offer will have a list and only those shows specifically stated will qualify.

This was several months ago. Maybe I watched the wrong Seinfeld episodes, or they dropped the points for it just before I watched.

Could be. It's fast enough that I'll keep putting a show on auto play until the points post before going to another category. Have you done it enough to get points from it consistently otherwise?

I queued up and "watched" maybe 10 hours of programming but haven't gotten any points from Hulu. Hulu definitely has my Plenti number.

Maybe it's worth a call in that case? Something is definitely wrong.

It seems like the Plenti program just isn't what they thought it was going to be. They have added zero partners, and have no grocery stores, no restaurants, etc. Literally just one drugstore, one phone provider, and some other random things. I just don't think the program is catching on with people. I work for Rite Aid and can tell you that 98% of the customers don't give a crap about the points. They just want to come in, get what they're getting, and get out, not spend 20 minutes hassling with Plenti stuff.

I agree. I think it could be a good program depending on how the rewards are set up and what partners they can get.

The rewards just aren't that valuable. As far as the credit card goes, a basic 1% cash back card on everything would benefit the vast majority of people much more. It's easy enough to earn points just from partners for me, but it's pretty slow so it's never going to be that valuable. I can use them occasionally, but they're not valuable enough for me to focus on earning them.

Partners is kind of luck of the draw. If you already are an AT&T customer, it might be worth it just because this is a large regular bill for most people. I doubt competition from any given field is ever going to join. Verizon's not going to get in on this. Maybe (hopefully) they can add more partners in other industries, but not much has changed in the time since they've launched.

As it exists now, IMO it's basically just a way for the partners to market to people.
