Re: Plenti card

I'll be getting one without asking for it, too (got an email from Amex saying they sent me a card). I could activate it for the 500 points, but I'm skeptical about the actual value. Of their partners, the only places I'd expect to ever earn Plenti points from are Macy's and Hulu - and it wouldn't be much. If I were to earn any through Hulu, I think I would have to cancel my subscription through Roku and start one through Hulu. When looking at how to redeem points, the site only mentions being able to use them at AT&T, Exxon, Macy’s, Mobil, & Rite Aid. So you can earn points with Hulu (apparently you can earn extra points by watching certain shows and getting other offers, too) but I don't know if you can redeem them with Hulu. That leaves me with Macy's...not exactly enticing.

Either way, I spend very little at any of the Plenti partners and enrolling in the Plenti program is not going to change that. I'll probably go ahead and claim the 500 points, and I'm hoping you can get more info once you're actually enrolled. I'll see I guess.

Another consideration is it says points expire after 2 years. To me that sounds like any points not redeemed after 2 years vanish, and not that you'll lose any points you have after 2 years of inactivity.

I only redeem my points at ExxonMobil. I don't really shop at Macy's... plus Mobil has the cheapest gas near me. That might not be helpful if it is a more expensive brand where you live. Also important, some Exxon stations don't take Plenti... and some only work at the pump. There's enough offers that the free gas is worth activating them.

Also with AT&T, you cannot redeem online, by phone, or on your bill. It must be made on a purchase at their store. (Which I have never done).

Thanks for the info. So do you know if that limited list of partners are the only places the points can be redeemed? I was thinking it might be worth it just to offset my Hulu bill every once in a while, but I honestly don't know how much I could even use them if that isn't an option.

I don't think there is an ExxonMobil near me. I don't shop at Macy's often (in fact the one near me is closing soon), but it's really the only place I think I would use them if I enrolled. I'm thinking I'll sign up and see if I can't just slowly build them up since it's free anyway. If nothing else I'll hopefully get 5 bucks of value out of it. It would take me a while to use them, but it might be worth checking out at least.

I am going to be pissed if they do this to me as I really don't want the new account hit from a crappy card like this.

Does this card report if they just email you telling you a card is on the way with no consent on your part?

All you'll be getting automatically is the loyalty/discount card. The credit card requires a separate application. Chill out.
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG, Prestige (retention)
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt
SD with activity alerts, might close: Arrival

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech, BofA Travel PH, Aviator Red

Well... you can redeem online at Macys.com if the one near you is closing. If you buy like one gift at Macy's you'll likely spend all of your points. I know what it's like, I don't have a RiteAid anywhere near me so a lot of the offers I was getting at first didn't apply to me.

So far the program has been progressing in rewards. There was never any bonus for having a Hulu account, and now there are bonuses for watching certain shows; I just put them on autoplay it pays for my subscription every month. Also redeeming at AT&T is new, so they may come out with more parters or more redemption options.

The limited redemption partners are pretty much it... for now. Like I said, I have found it most useful for gas.

Love it! I'm trying that.

Sorry I over reacted, I didn't know there was anything but the credit product. My profile is about on the edge of what it can take new account wise from what I can tell and I didn't want to take a big hit for a useless card that I didn't even ask for.

They have made some halfhearted attempts to improve the Plenti credit card (it now earns 3% and 2% on a couple things; originally it was literally a flat 1% card) but it still has no real advantage over just using an unrestricted cash back card. The Plenti points can only be spent at a handful of places and can be a hassle to spend (i.e. ATT) whereas with cash you can do what you want.

Simply a more restrictive version of something that's available without restriction elsewhere, IMO.

i got the 500 points for signing up, and redeemed them for $5 off a tank of gas at a Mobil today.

I looked on the website to see how many I had earned from using my loyalty card elsewhere, and saw 32 points for a $320 Macy's purchase.

That's 0.1%.

I guess Mobil is the way to earn at 1 cent/gallon. That's at least about 0.4%,
