Amex and "counting" purchases for EDP

Postby MemberSince99 » Mon May 04, 2015 6:09 am

Anyone else seen this? I have like 34 purchases on my EDP which is supposed to get me a 50% points bonus, but Amex only has 29 listed, just enough to miss that bonus.

Hummmm interesting new math I guess if that holds up. I'm not sure how they would have "combined" purchases, as they are all listed as separate purchases, but as well all know the lender is ALWAYS right. Except in ONE little way - we have other choices.

So if I don't get the 50% bonus for the month, ok Amex, you bought our government fair and square (along with many other megacorporations) and you can do whatever you please, but so can I, in terms of which card I whip out on a daily basis. You can win the battle, but not too sure about winning the war so to speak.

And yes Takeshi, I realize Amex couldn't give a damn less one way or the other about my business and yes I realize it's not a vast conspiracy orchestrated by the Illuminati to take over the world, no need to even post the obvious stuff it's just a waste of time.

I've had something similar happen, but it was only because a pending authorization fell off. When it eventually posted it still counted for the original date it was processed and they retroactively recalculated my MR for that month I believe.

I fail to see how that's relevant. If you made 34 transactions they should count as 34 transactions. Now, if they didn't post in time then they didn't post in time.

I'm very curious to learn more. Have they combined any purchases (same merchant, same date) to reduce your transactions? Or some transactions have totally vanished or have jumped from one statement period to another?

Interesting... I have never experienced that. I have even made multiple transactions with the same merchant in the same day, but have never seen them combine them for the purposes of counting towards the bonus.

Although, I never keep close tabs on the transaction count (just the transactions themselves and their dollar amounts). I usually see that I've passed 20 by their count early on in the cycle and don't pay much attention to it beyond that.

I've used mine 7 times today. In all cases, it was the rewards-maximizing option.

It's slightly weird to have such a useful card.

On my "swipe counting wheel" on the Amex website, I see some of the transaction "spokes" are greenish-yellow in color - is that to indicate grocery transactions? Or the color means something else?

I believe the color shows the process of making purchases. When you reach 20-30 counts, it turns green completely.
All my posts are my opinions. All my posts mentioned "you" are merely for discussion-purpose only. No advice is given in any post at any time. It is also impossible for me to put effort to verify every statement that anyone has given.

That makes more sense. I assume Amex is trying to break the swipe wheel into quarters, and it doesn't work out as well visually for 30 (some 7, some 8) as it does for 20 (5 for each). Judging from signatures on here and on MF, I think ED is more popular than EDP, so they want to make it look good for the majority of the cardmembers. EDP people are probably more likely to be focused on rewards, and could care less about a trivial matter of aesthetics.

It doesn't bother me, though! I'm just really picky about getting fresh salad greens and don't mind making little stops! :ppp

Maybe I just never noticed it before, since neither PRG nor BCE were ever cards I used for anything close to 30 transactions a month, but...

Amex EDP is definitely giving me inaccurate data about my transactions. I've not seen any fraudulent activity - all transactions that I've seen have been real and authorized - but they jump between appearing as posted, pending, both, or completely disappearing.

I've used the card 14 times, and 6 of the transactions have something unusual about how they are presented.*

*And the 6 transactions involve 5 different merchants, so it's not one or two merchants doing something weird.
