Can I transfer points from my American Express Gold to a Platinum card?

Postby dun8 » Wed Jun 18, 2008 9:28 pm

Got a question

Thinking about switching to the Amex Platinum card. Right now I have the Gold card. If I open up a platinum card will my points be transferred to it from these other cards? Doesn't the platinum card have a higher redemption value too? That's why I want to cash them out on the platinum instead of the gold.

From what I know you have nothing to worry about. Your points are linked to your Membership Rewards account, which is used for all your cards, not just a single card. If you get a platinum card basically what will happen is your account will be changed to a Membership Rewards First program instead and your points will be earned/redeemed at that level.

Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Chase Sapphire Preferred
