Closed my AmEx cards

Postby MB131174 » Sun Mar 15, 2015 5:00 pm

Last month I bought a new Explorer Limited. I guess that spooked AmEx and they decreased my CL on one of my BCE cards (I had 2). I closed one of them, also closed my Platinum and my business card with them. Once the other BCE gets the payout for rewards I'll be closing that card and American Express will never again be in my wallet. When I called to close the Platinum the lady didn't even try to get me to reconsider. She promptly closed it without any fuss. I was kinda shocked but relieved at the same time. The overseas guy closing my BCE gave me a hard time. I was getting pretty ticked off with him. AmEx can S my D now.

I can understand being a little ticked off about AA. However, it seems as if this may have just been a temporary thing. Seems likely your limits would have been back where you had them within a few months more than likely, assuming timely payments. Was this the only major change to your credit profile, or is there anything else that may have contributed to the adverse action?

Crazy. I could see a CLD if you were going crazy with opening new revolving accounts and maxing out cards but an auto loan causing a CLD is illogical. And they left your other card limit in tact which makes it even more illogical.

I have been toying around with closing my Blue since the APR is going up-the card is pretty much worthless. I actually am indifferent to Amex as a whole; I only like that new accounts for me report as opened in 1999.

I wonder if they are bracing for the loss of Costco and are being cautious. Either way, losing a good customer that pays annual fees (Platinum/Business) is not a smart move for them.

I'm a c___t hair away from closing all of my Amex cards as well. Sick of the crappy limits (hey I guess they can't CLD me, though) and that I've never gotten an increase from them (meanwhile on FICO... people with 650 scores and baddies get 3X increases handed out like candy.

Sometimes I can relate to people who absolutely despise Amex (like that dude who stiffed them for a quarter mill, maddawg or whatever his name is). My hope is that I'll open the stock page someday and see "AXPQ" and "First Premier Bank buys remnants of moribund American Express". At least First Premier uses American csr's unlike most of Amex's cards. Besides, a First Premier Rewards Gold (FPRG) Amex card sounds cool! Know that will never happen, but Amex has definitely jumped the shark in the past few years.

Has anyone with a Diners Club card here faced AA from BMO? On myfico there are some reports of CLDs and account closures.

I'm glad you've taken charge and dumped them. I don't have any issues with amex but it sounds like they were a pain to work with in your case. I feel the same way about citi. Really despise those mfers. Even Barclays has been more reasonable and I'm not that big a fan of them.
