Postby dickey1331 » Fri Mar 06, 2015 8:58 pm

I was checking my email today and got an email from AMEX saying they gave me a $3,000 CLI on my Delta card. Went from $9,900 to $12,900. Seems they are trying to compete with my Marriott card.

Marriott Rewards Premier $12,000
Discover IT $12,000
USAA Cash Rewards $11,000
American Express Blue Cash Preferred $10,000

Nice! When was the last CLI on your AMEX? I'm curious because I'm sure I won't get an email like that for a few more months after my 61 day CLI in Jan.

When did you open the account?

Also, the 61 day CLI option is not limited to just that one day - it's just the earliest you can get one, and a lot of people are eager to grow their limits quickly. So you could request one now.

I've not gone for one, since I so rarely use my BCE. I was not surprised when Amex didn't give me an auto-CLI after 6 months.

Nice job! I hope they can somehow do that with my Gold Delta Skymiles card. My last CLI request on that one was shot down and I had gotten a CLI on it 6 months prior.

I've started getting auto increases on my Discover. Amex will NOT budge on my credit cards - still stuck at the same limit since 2011. However, they will approve charges many times over (per the check spend button) my BCE limit on my charge card.

Limits and CLI's are based on one's credit and income -- not on competing with other tradelines.

In a few limited cases, I think issuers do choose to compete directly with other tradelines.

I don't know if that's what's happening here, but for example I've sometimes heard about CO upgrading people to rewards cards and giving CLIs automatically within a day of a customer opening an account with a competitor. It's only anecdotal evidence, but it does sound like an effort to compete, rather than the result of a fundamental reassessment of a customer's risk.

I suppose it's possible that utilization could have been a factor in some of the cases.

You never know. AMEX used to be my highest and with Discover matching them and USAA and Chase passing them. It makes you wonder.

My credit limit is much higher than my income. I don't list all of my credit cards but I have about $80-85k in credit vs my job is only about $45k. Granted only 2 of my cards currently have a balance on them.
