Gardening Pays Off

Postby nowipaco » Mon Feb 16, 2015 1:08 pm

Have been gardening up from a score of 560 and a medical collection over a year ago to finally today going on an app spree this morning.

- First and most important acquisition: AmEx PRG - Longest 60 seconds of my life (Got the 50,000 points after $1k offer through CardMatch)
- Second and on the same HP: AmEx Everyday - CL of $4500 when I was hoping for just $2k - Can't wait for 3X CLI
- Third: Chase Freedom - CL of only $1500 (Disappointed) - Just to get my foot in the door with Chase so I can get the CSP down the road. Got the $100 back after $500 offer. Will just be using this one mostly for dining next quarter for the 5% back.

Feels great to be out of the garden, but I guess that exactly where I'm headed back to after my apps today. Feels even better to finally be in with AmEx. The starting limit of $4500 on the Everyday is just the icing on the cake.

AmEx ED: $4500 (02/15)
AmEx PRG: NPSL (02/15)
AmEx SPG: $2000 (06/15)
Capital One QS: $3250 (02/13)
Marriott: $5000 (01/16)
Ritz Carlton: $13,500 (09/15)
TCL: $34,750 (Some not shown above)

Way to go on the app spree.

Over time you will see your FICO scores grow. You may even see mid 700's by fall this year.

Congratulations! You are on the right track! I too went on an app spree late last year, but I have 13 or so cards now....I don't think I need anymore for a long time to come xD You'll enjoy the Amex Everyday card, back when I first got it, it was wonderful! I will say the card design was slightly disappointing for me. It has worn off fairly quickly, but beside that is is a great card! Well Done, well done.

I plan on using the PRG the most and the Everyday for larger purchases I may end up carrying a balance on. Are there any benefits to the Everyday that would make me want to use it after I've gotten the 50,000 points out of the way on my PRG? I really don't know a ton about it. I just know that its recommended to get a charge and a credit together on one pull.

If you decide to close your PRG, keep the ED around so you can keep your MR points basically. There's also a 15 month 0 APR offer on the card as well as being able to earn even more MR points depending on how many swipes a month you make with it.

Did I get an intro APR on the ED if I app'd for it right after the PRG? Or do I only get the intro offer on the PRG because I got it first?

Congratulations on your recent progress and approvals. Sounds like you made good use of that app spree!

I have the ED and am really enjoying it. Are you planning on making use of the 20% bonus? If I had the PRG and ED, I would make sure to at least use the ED 20 times a cycle for that bonus. You might as well use the ED for groceries and non-categorized spending; assuming the 20% bonus you would get 2.4 MR and 1.2 MR on the ED, respectively, rather than 2 MR and 1 MR on the PRG. It all goes to one MR program, after all. You may even find it worth dumping the PRG after you get the introductory bonus and before the AF hits. That spending could bring in MR on the ED with no AF.

As far as I know that 0% offer is standard on all new applications, but it's possible in your application situation they make an exception. Consult the fine print to find out for sure (you may have to wait for it to come in with the cards). Also look for that 10,000 MR bonus on the ED.

After the Costco news and a CSP pickup, I'm not feeling as great a desire for the ED/EDP as before. I just use Amex so rarely outside of Costco that it would probably take me years to earn enough MRs for a flight. I might get one, but it's not on my short list.

I'm still on the fence about keeping the PRG. Roadside Assistance and Small Business Saturday do make the annual fee pretty small.
