It's not just AMEX cards that do it. My Chase SP and Chase Marriott card also do it.

American Express TrueEarnings Card from Costco

At my Target, we have black lights, at the Electronics Boat & Guest Service, for checking the validity of credit cards.

Basically, if someone comes through the lane, and we do a "Code 10" authorization, a manager walks away with your card and talks to the merchant services and runs a black light over your card.

Most of the fake cards won't glow like they should under a black light, so we know there fake. That... and the signuatre panels on your Visa & Amex cards, should glow.

On Visa it'll just glow Visa in a nice, long pattern. Amex, just says "WORLD SERVICE" in all caps, or "Amex" in a repeating pattern.

Discover It $500 10/14. Capital One QS Visa $300 02/15, formerly Journey Visa Plat. 11/14.
