Who gets which Amex Offers?

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Sun Jan 18, 2015 5:36 pm

Does anyone know what criteria Amex uses to determine which customers get particular Offers? Is it by card? Or how much you spend with Amex each year? I don’t seem to get any useful Offers (except for Small Business Saturday).

I don’t get anything for Wal-Mart or iTunes like some others have. I get a lot of Offers for high-end retail websites, but on the rare occasion I go to one, Discover or Chase usually gives a better deal.

Does the TrueEarnings give special offers for Costco purchases? Are EDP’s offers better than ED’s?

Wish I could contribute something more valuable, but I am in the same boat. I did get some good offers before Christmas (such as Walmart, Amazon, and PetSmart), but since then I haven't gotten many new offers at all and the ones I have are also higher end retail websites. It made me wonder of they offered more around the holidays and now that it's passed they've just slowed down more in general.

I was just thinking this the other day, so this post is quite relevant to me. Lately, all the offers are either - 1) to places I never heard of, 2) out of my reach, 3) to places that have zero appeal to me or 4) suck. The last useful two were $20 back with $100 purchase at Staples (bought gift cards) and $50 back on a $150 Hyatt bill (which happened to appear literally the same day I needed to book a Hyatt room). I would be happy if the offers were useful enough to offset the annual fee on the charge card, but lately, I'm getting NADA that's appealing. Why the hot place would I need to buy THAT much stationary? Reminds me of Samuel L. Jackson asking "WHO buys THAT much popcorn?!"

I add all the offers. A while back one of the retailers amex had they had a $40 offer but the retailer had issues and because of that amex gave everyone who added the offer to their card a statement credit for $40. So yeah I hope I get another one!

And for offers I do use are rare I have been wanting an Amazon offer but I haven't had any luck with that..

Eh most of my offers suck too, mostly from sites I've never heard of before or have ever shopped at for that matter.

No idea but it definitely varies by card and person. My TE and BCP don't always get the same offers. My wife's BCP and my BCP don't always get the same offers.
