PRG Missing Sign-Up Offer

Postby codeman » Sat Dec 20, 2014 8:23 am

Hello!

I've had an AmEx Blue Cash for a few years, and decided to apply for an AmEx Premier Rewards Gold after looking at my spending and rewards I would get for various cards.

I saw the 25,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 in the first two months. I applied for the card, was approved, but realized I didn't see the offer on my account. I inquired with AmEx, and they said the sign-up offer wasn't applied, but they'd open a case. Weeks later now, I finally received notice that I hadn't signed up with the offer (which isn't true).

I'm noticing right now that if I log in to my AmEx account, and then look at the PRG, I don't see the offer, but if I just go to the AmEx PRG page, I do see it. This second way is the way I saw the offer, and clicked Apply there.

I'm wondering if anyone has encountered this, or has any idea if I have any recourse? Thanks!

I had a similar experience. Amex is very particular about which link you use to apply, and not all bonuses from links are valid for people who already have a different Amex card.

I applied online for my BCE in August and thought I was going to get a $100 credit for $1000 spending. I applied through some link that apparently didn't work for existing Amex customers. I'd had a PRG since May, and I didn't get the $100. I was a little annoyed about that.

My irritation is pretty minimal, given the 50k MR PRG bonus I got in May, but if I hadn't gotten that I would be annoyed. I don't think you have much recourse as far as getting the 25k points, since they have all their fine print about it. However, if you spend a lot with it you might be able to get the annual fee waived or some extra MR points if you call each year.

I know it's not much consolation. With no bonus, $175 is a big AF, even if it's waived the first year.

I applied incognito for my latest Amex card and was able to get the offer they had on that card no problem despite already being an Amex cardholder. Don't know if that would work for any of the charge cards but just something I wanted to throw out there.

I took a look at the fine print (which I hadn't done before), and realized there is a pretty clear line in there I hadn't seen before:

If we identify you as currently having an American Express® Card account, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer. This offer is also not available to applicants who have or have had this product.

Seems pretty clear I might not have a case to argue here, unfortunately, but I feel better knowing the reason (and that it was an error on my part).

I will probably keep the PRG for the year, evaluate my spending, and then see if the Everyday (or even PC my Freedom to CSP) would better suit my needs.
