My AU went to a business that appeared on her local shop small map that turned out to not accept AMEX. She mentioned she had come specifically because of the shop small promotion and they went ahead and gave her $10 off her purchases anyway. Thought that was pretty cool.

I used the offer for a restaurant and now I'm worried I won't get the $10 credit because I never received an email after the purchase. I went to the same restaurant last year and received the credit. I know I registered my card, at least I'm pretty sure but I never received a confirmation email after registering.

Log in and check "Savings" under Amex Offers & Benefits, if the charges are already posted. See if there are savings showing up in there. For now all three of my purchases on BCE have the savings showing up, even though the credit is not issued yet (should be issued very soon).

Not only did I get the confirmation emails that same Saturday... I've also already received my three (3) $10 statement credits, applied to my account yesterday, reducing my outstanding balance by $30.00. I only pre registered one AmEx card, so AmEx delivered in full.
Current Cards:
AmEx Platinum Charge: NPSL, $450 AF
AmEx Reserve Credit: $30K limit, $450 AF
Chase Slate Visa Credit: $32K limit, No AF
Future Strategy:
Near Term: Need a good MasterCard for places that won't accept AmEx or Visa
Long Term: Will downsize out of one or both current AmEx cards to reduce AFs

I make $10-$15 purchases at small businesses often, sometimes paying with an Amex, and they are happy to have me as a customer. So the slightly higher fees when there are multiple swipes I don't think are a huge consideration.

I would find one $25 or $30 credit a lot simpler than three $10 credits. I can also see it being the case, though, that at some merchants it's not practical to spend $30 at once.

That map was really a disaster, though. Merchants were constantly disappearing and reappearing, and it kept trying to do a search for them in the wrong state.

How hard would it really be for Amex to just come up with a list of their merchants who process less than $X of Amex card payments - over Amex's very own payment network - in a year for a given set of zip codes near my billing address?

Was there some meeting where Amex execs agreed, "Hey, we have all this accurate information about small businesses who take our card. But rather than sort through it ourselves, let's hire some outsiders who have unreliable information and can really complicate things!"?
