Dear Costco and Amex, Please Don't Break Up!

Postby yfan » Thu Nov 06, 2014 5:41 pm

Apparently, Costco is taking bids for a new card issuer. They have already replaced American Express with Capital One in Canada. Now the same process may be under way in the US (though Amex is among the current bidders). If this happens, the Amex Costco True Earnings card will go away. In Canada, Amex replaced the cards of the TE cardmembers with a consumer version of the SimplyCash card (of which the US has a business version - but the consumer version is far less rewarding).

My Costco Amex is my go-to card. I use it at Costco, for gas (3% cashback!) and restaurants (2%). I don't want to lose one card that gives 3% cashback on Costco AND other gas stations. And I don't want to apply for a new card. PLEASE, Costco and Amex, don't break up! I have no problem if Costco wants to accept other cards too, but keep the Amex. Pretty please!

I wouldn't be surprised if they pick US Bank, since Costco uses Elavon's system, which US Bank owns.
Amex BCE - $20K (11/2014)
Amex Everyday - $20K (04/2015)
Amex Business Gold - NPSL (09/2013)
Bank Of America Cash Rewards - $5K (11/2014)
Chase Freedom - $11,700 (10/2013)
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $18K (11/2014)
Citi Thank You Preferred - $10K (11/2014)
U.S. Bank Cash+ - $5K (03/2015)
Wells Fargo Platinum Rewards - $4700 (05/2009)
