'Oh AMEX Silver! I bet you'll be upgrading to the Gold soon!' Lol to the noobs.

Also the Idea of first getting the Platinum then downgrading to the Green isn't a bad idea. I just figure I could get a much better card like the BCP for the 75$ AF, or even from another card company that may give better offers.

I was dumb. I'm not proud of it. It wasn't quite 10 years. I think I dumped it at ≈7. Still, I thought it was "cool" (I was in my 20s) but it was really dumb to pay Amex all that money when, in reality, I wasn't using any of the services.

My main point was so that others learn from my mistake: Don't keep a card because it's "cool" or "unique" or whatever. It's a tool. The front of it doesn't matter in how it spends and, most likely, that laundry list of benefits don't really matter, either. You're unlikely to use much other than getting cash back / points or maybe primary/secondary car rental insurance (and you maybe covered by your current insurance on that - you should check).

Given that I have traveled over 10x this year nationwide and plan to go internationally I felt that the platinum card will best suit me. Really happy to sign up for the new perks and so forth.

Does anyone have any advice or helpful tips on using this card that they can share? looking for members that have had this card for a while.

Welcome to the club. Always pay your bill on time. Pay all your bills on time. Think of AmEx as your friend. Would you screw your friend over for money? No. If you are good to them (use their travel services, I do) and other products, they will be good to you. It's a relationship not just a business.

They offer roadside assistance up to four times per year. Therefore, I cancelled my AAA subscription. If you live in Los Angeles area, you have access to "THE CENTURION℠ SUITE BY AMERICAN EXPRESS" at the Staples Center.
