I applied last Friday, approved last Saturday. Email notifying card shipped Monday, received Thursday. Tonight (Friday) I checked into my Saturday flight via the Delta iPhone application. When checking in I was given the opportunity to check a bag for free. I also see on my boarding pass I am Zone 1 boarding, but not sure what I would have been without the Delta Gold card. So it seems that you do in fact get the priority benefits (boarding and 1 checked bag free) even if you don't purchase the flight with the card (hopefully award flights also). This particular flight was booked through Chase UR with UR points.

Yes, it is. So much so that your SkyMiles number is printed on the front of your card! :D

Nice to know. I primarily got the card for the Zone 1 and free bag check-in benefits. My wife and I fly at least twice a year and typically on Delta. The free bag check-in alone makes up for the annual fee.

Chase - Sapphire Preferred ($14,000), Disney ($11,500), Amazon.com ($9,000), Freedom ($8,000)

Same reason I got it. I don't plan to out much spend on it, except for the 50k Skymiles bonus. Even for travel, which I almost always use Delta, I would rather use my CSP.

Funny thing. Not sure if anyone else does this, but I typically have one CC that I like to use for higher risk situations such as sending the card off with a waiter to pay a restaurant tab. One that I don't use much otherwise so that if it is compromised I'm not out much in rewards while waiting for a new card to arrive. My Skymiles card is the one I use for that purpose.

Actually Xorand I thought I was the only one that did that. With everyone stealing cards and the data breaches, I have that card that I "sacrifice" in case something happens.

Planned to get a CSP for that reason, only to use for dining charges where my card is taken away. Probably just paranoia but it's why I didn't want a metal version of the card. The plainer and less conspicuous, the better

Our situation makes it even more essential to have a sacrificial card in a manner of speaking. My wife and I travel the country in an RV and use a mail forwarding service for an address. Whenever someone sends a new card, it may be a couple weeks before I get it due to logistics of it arriving at the mailbox place, them forwarding it and it arriving wherever we happen to be.

At least one advantage to AmEx issuing my wife's AU BCP with a unique card number meant that when mine was compromised we could still use hers to get 6% on groceries and 3% on fuel (the biggest reason we have the card) until my replacement made it through forwarding to our location.

The only card I'd be a bit uneasy about handing over would be Sallie Mae - that only comes out at trusted grocery stores.

Freedom has been the only one with fraud on it so far.
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
Letting new accounts cool off since May
