Got approved for Delta Gold, denied for PRG

Postby ShinBeats » Tue Aug 26, 2014 1:14 pm

Very happy with that! Went ahead and applied for the PRG, and was denied. Showing a 658 on my Experian.

My question is, does AMEX value a relationship with them at all? Meaning, If I show responsibility with the Delta Gold card would I have a better chance at PRG in say 3-4 months?

Thanks in advance.

For how long did you have the Delta Gold before you applied for the PRG? Or you applied for both on the same day or a few days/weeks apart? If so, which did you apply for first?

Use your Delta card responsibly for a couple of months and then try for the PRG again. That's what I'd do in your situation.

Is there a particular Amex card you want to have in the long run? Is the PRG one you'd want to keep? Or you're building towards another card like the EveryDay or Blue Cash series?

I used 2.5 months of PRG history to get a BCE which I plan to keep a long time. As you have something with Amex, use the Delta frequently and pay in full every week. If you want the PRG, reapply for it in a few months and get your FICO higher if possible. If you want a credit card like one in the EveryDay or Blue Cash series, I'd keep the Delta open a few months more than that and then look into doing a product change to BCE or apply for the ED.

Be responsible with what you have and you'll build the history to get what you want.

I don't think Amex allows PCs from cobranded cards to the BCE but nonetheless that's exactly what OP should do.

It definitely used to be possible. There are a bunch of threads here of people talking about completing the Delta to BCE switch. That said, they are old threads. There are some newer threads saying it is no longer possible or requires a card be open for at least a year.

There are reports from 2013 and before of people who could only qualify for a Delta calling and immediately PCing to a BCE - within hours of applying, not months or years. Perhaps Amex thought that option allowed too much potential for abuse so they closed it or made it much more difficult.

PRG is definitely the card I'd want to keep, until my income supports Platinum. :)

Okay. Use the Delta for a few months and maybe app for the PRG again in January or February 2015. You'd have a fair chance by December or maybe even late November, but I'd wait a little longer to be more confident in your odds.

What other credit history do you have? A 658 suggests high utilization or a late payment or two? It is a bit low to have with a new-but-clean credit history.

Also, it seems that the Delta to Blue family PC option has, in fact, been closed. But a Delta card could not have become a PRG, anyway.
