Postby jpitsy088 » Mon Aug 25, 2014 4:50 pm

am a cardholder of premier rewards gold card for about a year 640 exp. score I received an email from amex for everyday card to apply clicked on apply just need to log in. Does Amex approve that low score for a cc? Have had perfect payment with them.

Possible. That score would make it very questionable with no history with them, but they maintain an internal score for you which may be higher depending on your history with them.

I say go for it, because if it's a decline it should not be a hard pull and you can see what you need to do in order to get the card that way and kind of where you stand in general with them based on the limit they give you if approved.

I have a spin off question.

Is it possible to PC your PRG into an everyday card if you don't want to keep it past the first year and pay the annual fee?

I could be wrong but I was told it was not possible to PC into an Everyday card
- Amex Platinum (primary)
- Citi Double Cash (backup)
- Chase Sapphire Reserve (just to get the bonus, closing in 2017)

Since you said you've had a good payment history with Amex so far, I'd go for it despite your score being on the low side of things.

If you have another cycle or two until you have to pay the PRG annual fee, I'd wait to apply until your score is a little higher. Maybe get your utilization down or do something else that can give a quick FICO boost?

If you don't have the time or ability to get your FICO higher before applying, then you might as well go for it now.

What are the factors hurting your credit? Some baddies in the past? If you have a 640 now and got a PRG a year ago and have a perfect payment history on it...maybe there's some issue with baddies? I'd expect your FICO to be higher.

(Edited after rereading earlier posts.)
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

Nope. Not a snowball's chance in hell. The PRG is a charge card and the ED is a revolver and Amex does not and has never that I've ever seen PC'd between the two. They will PC a charge card to another charge or some revolvers to other revolvers, but they do not PC between the two types at all.

Chase Sapphire Preferred $5000
Chase Freedom $2000
Amex Green NPSL
Amex Gold Premier Rewards NPSL

That's for you to determine. Is it a card that actually suits you or is a card that you want or are you just responding to the offer?

I'd +1 MemberSince99's & CarefulBuilder14's comments. If you really want it see if you can improve your credit. If you do get denied it shouldn't be a big deal since it should be an SP and you'll at least know what their concerns are with your credit.
