Amex Green Approved!

Postby popamode72 » Fri Aug 08, 2014 11:27 am

Almost didn't think I'd be able to get this card since I apped for the PRG back in June and got denied for it instantly then so waiting a little bit longer really did the trick for me. This time, it gave me that message saying that I'd have to wait for a status in 24 hours and I just called the number and waited for a few minutes and was really surprised that I got the card. Think it also might have helped that I closed two accounts that I didn't need anymore and that I'm about to close a third one I also don't find useful anymore (update: just did it).

Hopefully with these two cards in handy, maybe sometime next year I'll see if I can get something even better. Also another reason why I went with the Green is that I didn't want to pay too much in annual fee costs so I'm also really happy about that. I also want to know if it's true that if you apply for a revolver from Amex like the Everyday card that they will just use the same pull they used for the charge card.

Congrats on your approval!

Usually with AmEx, (for any card other than your first) you get a hard pull if you're accepted and a soft pull if you're declined. However, if you apply fast enough, you'll get only one hard pull for two cards. I got my AmEx Blue Cash Everyday and my AmEx Everyday card about two weeks apart and only got one hard pull.
FICO TU - 728 - 8/14
FICO EX - 716 - 7/14
FICO EQ - 740 - 7/14

Bank of America Cash Rewards - $2,400
Best Buy - $3,000
American Express Blue Cash Everyday - $8,000
American Express Everyday - $10,000
Discover It Chrome - $500 (AU on fiancée's card, helping her build credit)
American Express Platinum - NPSL
Barclaycard Arrival+ - $3,000
Capital One Yamacard - $11,000

Update:

Just got approved for the Amex Everyday Card for $2,100 as my CL. That ought to make up for not getting the full 3x CLI on my Delta! Wow. I knew closing those three store card accounts that I used to build up my credit would be worth it. I think I know who I will keep doing business with and who I'll probably just not bother with for quite a while.

Interesting, I could've sworn I read somewhere that if you qualify for an amex charge card, you'd qualify for all of them and it really just depends on what AF you wanted to pay
- Fidelity Visa
- Citi Double Cash
- Amazon Prime Store Card
- Chase Sapphire Reserve

I think I've read that before too. It was probably on MyFico and someone said that the Green and Gold cards have the same underwriting criteria but it's basically a difference in the annual fees for them. I also heard that PCs are possible as long as you change it to another charge card basically.

You didn't want to retry for the prg then? If you're going to pay an AF, might as well maximize your rewards?

Good point though I also didn't want to have more than one card with an AF, hence why when the time comes next year, I'll try to see if I can PC my Gold Delta to another card with no annual fee. I'll also look into the PRG more next year to see if it fits my needs and spending patterns and go from there.

When did you get the Amex Gold Delta? If prior to the June PRG app, it seems odd that they would decline you for a charge card when you already had a credit card with them. Or is the Gold Delta significantly easier to get than the other credit cards (or even charge cards)?

If you got the AGD after June, then it is a little odd, perhaps, to go from being declined for a charge card to being approved for a credit card in the space of two months. Congrats on getting great cards - I'm just a little surprised either way!
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
Letting new accounts cool off since May

I actually apped for the AGD in June and was instantly approved for it but had also applied for the Everyday Card the same day then and didn't feel confident enough at the time to really go through with it fully and have to wait so I canceled that app. It was a weekend that I did those apps

Later hat same month, I tried going for the PRG and got the denial (ended up being a different pull), and did these apps a few days after I got my CLI on the AGD basically.

Kinda weird how they told me I was approved for the Everyday Card on the phone and gave me my limit but it's still pending in the system according to another representative I talked to. Should I be worried at all?
