Purchase Protection Timeline

Postby ivotedale » Sun Aug 03, 2014 12:18 am

Hey there guys - can anyone with experience with filing a purchase protection claim chime in?

I filed a claim over the phone last night (8/1/14) for a Jack Spade bag I purchased last month, having come home to a ripped up handle by with a roommate's puppy. Everything went well in the phone call; had all the necessary information and worked with a knowledgeable member of customer service.

I went to the online claims page to see the status in real time as we talked about it, and did see a case number open- fast forward to today and it mentions it is now CLOSED. I don't see any indication of a reimbursement as of this point (it's only been 24 hours).

How long does it typically take for a reimbursement? I recall seeing an older thread on here about crayons being drawn on a Coach purse and the OP was reimbursed immediately, so this can't be too asinine of a request, can it?

I'd give it a couple of days and if you don't get reimbursed by then give them a call and ask about it. Shouldn't be a problem I wouldn't think.

I spoke almost too soon - received an email it is cleared and I will be getting a reimbursement for the item!

Do they typically mail you a check, or give a statement credit or similar?

Appreciate the help earlier, MemberSince99

Statement credit.

As you mentioned it is pretty quick and in my experience, there has been little communication. I fill out the claim form and a week later I see a credit in my account.

I have another situation, according to the terms the protection lasts for 90 days. I bought a shotgun case that was really cheap and it is already coming apart around the zipper, it's been just over 90 days now and I am hoping they will still honor it, although I would understand if not. Does anyone have experience calling past the deadline? I actually tried calling about a week ago but couldn't wait on hold so I had to hang up after five minutes. I wonder if they can see that I tried calling earlier.

Well to start that would not be purchase protection as the item was not lost, stolen, damaged.

That is a warranty issue. What was the original warranty period? Probably 90 days and Amex doubles the warranty so it should be covered under warranty protection.

I also recommend filling out the form online (I assume one exists for warranty, I know it does for purchase protection as I have done it) vs calling in.

The item is now damaged, the warranty was one month according to the store. It has been longer than that. I just need to find some time to contact AMEX, hopefully they won't put me on hold for a long time again.
