Centurion Lounge fee??

Postby nismoZtuner » Fri Aug 01, 2014 4:24 pm

I was reading this a while ago and came across this on an article- I thought everyone had to pay that $50 fee including centurion holders after the changes Amex made..

"Of course, all this luxury comes at a price: only American Express cardholders can get into the lounge. Additionally, those who don't carry either the Centurion (a.k.a. Black) or Platinum cards, which boast annual fees of $2,500 and $450, respectively, will have to pay $50 for a day pass. Cardholders are allowed to bring in either a spouse (and any kids under 18), or two friends. But for those looking to splurge, it'll definitely be a cool new addition to SFO's offerings. "Maybe people will even want get to the airport early," Kostow muses."

Having recently been there, I can say it was still free to Plat and Centurion. In fact if you show your centurion at the bar, they'll break out the Johnny Blue for you. I'm traveling through dfw tomorrow, so I'll let you know. But pretty sure it's still free for those two cards.

From what I understand when the centurion lounge was a new thing in the US it was only free for centurion cardholders. But around the time they got rid of the admirals club and US Airways lounge benefit on the platinum they added the centurion lounge to help make up for it.

Have you been? It's my favorite lounge I've been to, and I'm really no stranger to domestic lounges. Haven't spent much time internationally (at least not in places that have airport lounges) but as I understand it the Centurion Lounge is competitive with the good airline ran products overseas.

Drinking at 6am isn't judgment-worthy. Drinking crap booze at 6am is. What did you select so I know to judge you or not?

Admission to the Centurion lounges is still free with Platinum and Centurion, I've the Plat. and used the Mexico DF and Buenos Aires lounges in the last couple of months.

Whether or not that benefit makes the $450 AF worth it is up each person. The lounges aren't all that special.

Haha lucky, I have never been to one. But I did see the one in the vegas airport. My flight was was going to leave within an hour after getting to the airport so there's no point of spending $50 for 1hr. . If I was a plat. I would of gone in for a while. Is everything inside complimentary? I'm assuming the booze isn't?

Usually everything is complimentary. I like the lounges where it is a self-serve bar...don't have to tip the bar tender :)
