I haven't had any luck at restaurants, with anything. But rarely do I do out and try new places, there are five or six restaurants that I frequently visit. When I needed a reservation for Mother's Day buffet at one they weren't able to help.

I have the concierge call some select retailers for certain hard to come by items, items that when a store receives them I want to know so I can buy before it is gone. One retailer they call five days a week, the other only once a week because if that store receives inventory it is only on Tuesday. Concierge emails me if anything will/has be available.

I've had concierge lookup hotel prices for me, although I am pretty sure they send it over to AMEX travel because the emails are different. I ask for the rates at Marriott hotels for dates in a certain city, they email me over everything I need, then I book myself if I see something I like.

Several times I've had them contact certain retailers for an item I am looking for so I can get the best price. Each year when the NBA, NFL, NCAA and MLB schedules are released I have them analyze the schedules to see if some of my favorite teams are playing in a city where I can go to another game in the same weekend. They take a while for this, about a week, but has worked out great in the past. For example, I say I want Jazz away games where there is an NFL game nearby within a day or two.

MR aren't terrible if you are careful and redeeming them for travel. I used to do everything on Chase personally but since my new employer uses American Express and I travel a lot for me it was a no brainer to try to get MR points now since I can combine them with points earned through work.

So my strategy is Discover/Chase freedom whenever there is a 5x Category, Chase Sapphire for Dining and Personal Travel, Amex Everyday Preferred for everything else.

I also have two hotel cards because Gold Status makes traveling for work a little more comfortable, but I don't typically spend on them much (and likely will cancel my Ritz Carlson card after the end of next year when my Gold Status expires from not hitting the $10K spend requirement next year).

Did you really just post your name and the last digits of your card?
