Invite for PRG card have questions

Postby cashinout » Mon Jun 30, 2014 8:47 pm

Hi Ladies and Gents I have a question so i have been card holder with Amex since 2012 I have a Green Corp Card through my Job, A Platinum Card, and a Blue Cash Rewards card. Today I get a email invite to get the Premier Rewards Gold Card not sure is this better than the platinum and why would they want me to apply for this when i hold their 2nd top tier charge card already with the platinum? or is it good to just get to have both as this thing seems to have more points per use vs the platinum card. Any advice is welcome thanks everyone.

It all depends what you spending patterns are. The card may or may not be valuable for you. The Platinum card has many perks but is one of the worst cards to earn MR points. The PRG earns MR at a higher rate but doesn't offer the same travel perks. Only you can decide.

If you are running >$10k a month in gas, groceries and traveling through your personal cards you can proly spread the spend to maximize the points and CB. Otherwise you are paying just to have the card.

Good luck!

would it be crazy to get the PRG and keep the platinum and just have both? I do travel a lot which i do use the plat for its perks but i also do a lot with gas , groceries might just get rid of the BCE card not sure any thoughts.

PRG has the fee waived the first year. You can always try it out, get a little MR boost, and close it later.

If you can manage 12 cards, you can probably manage 13.

Really not sure what I'll add next or when

good one there with the 12 cards i am planning on closing most of them outside of the chase cards, amex, and credit union it should go down to about 8 most of these were to just get on the map there is truly no way to spend all of this money to me it can be done but just not for me.

Why wouldn't they? The more you charge on their cards the more they make.

Good is always highly subjective. Some only find one or the other useful. Some find both useful. Some find neither useful (I'm in that camp). Look over both cards and see if you'd benefit from both.

BCE is rarely the best for rewards in those categories. The BCP or old Blue Cash or even Sallie Mae might be a better fit depending on your spend in those categories.

Would you use the PRG for flight payment? If not, I'd get the $95 EveryDay Preferred and use that card for all AmEx spend. That would go into the same MR pool as the Plat.
