Introduction and approval for Amex Everyday at age 18

Postby virtue407 » Wed Jun 18, 2014 10:05 am

Hello, my name is Joe!

I've been a browser of the forums for a while; I have thought about joining the forums for a while, and decided today was a great day to pull the trigger.

I applied for my first cc the day I turned 18 (lol), I wanted to start building my credit as soon as I could. I applied for Discover's It Card Student version and got approved with a small CL of $500. Ran most of my expenses through the card, paid balance full every month. After 6 months got an increase on my line of credit by 50% to $750. A couple months after that I got my fico score on my Discover statement, 666 (lol). Another 2 months go by and it jumps to 691.

I've always been drawn to the American Express prestige, like many others. I've read posts about 19 yo's getting Green and Gold cards, but not many instances where 18 yo's were getting approved (especially for revolvers). After I saw my most recent fico on my statement I pulled the trigger and apt for the Amex Everyday Preferred, and the Amex Green yesterday. I got the dreaded 14 day message on the Everyday and instant denial on the Green (lol). I figured I'd end up calling Amex to speed up the application process for the Everyday.. This morning I received an email from Amex saying I was approved for the Everyday! I achieved my goal of obtaining an American Express at 18.

Sorry for the rambling, and thanks for all your guy's advice throughout the forums. It's been really helpful discovering knowledge of credit, credit cards, and how important credit scores really are (a lot of things 18 yo's don't know).

Anyway, Thanks and Cheers!
Discover It $1,500.00

American Express Everyday Preferred $2,000.00

Well done man! I'm very happy for you. Luckily there are 18yo out there like you (although not that many I believe).
I guess you still don't know you CL. Or do you?

Congrats on the Approval. I would not be worried about the Green Denial. They only allow one app every 30 days it seems.

No, you can app for different types of cards, i.e. revolver vs charge, within 30 days so long as they are different types. I've done it and gotten approved that way. And I believe though I'm not sure, that you can apply for the same type as well, as long as the prior app was approved - I think it's a decline that sets the 30 day requirement.

Anyway congratulations!

I was approved for the AMEX TrueEarnings card at 18 with a $2k limit. Easily beat my other first card that had a limit of $500.

You can call them and find out I believe it will tell you when you call the number and you don't even have to speak with a rep, if I remember right.
