Approved for Hilton HHonors Card

Postby jrmsu » Tue Jun 17, 2014 7:35 am

I wanted an AMEX to finish out my credit cards, but i couldn't find one that I really wanted or needed. The cashback/points cards didn't give me anything that I didn't already have, and I didn't want a charge card. I finally found the Hilton HHonors card which is pretty useful as I tend to stay in a hotel from the Hilton brand at least once a year. Originally, I was going to wait 6 months to build more history with my other cards, but decided to apply for it on Saturday out of impulse and was instantly approved! I got my credit line today and it is $5,500. I can't wait for the 61 days.

I guess that finishes out my credit card spree till at least the next 2 years...
My Cards:

Discover It - $8,450 (9/13)
BankAmericard Cash Rewards Visa Signature - $5,000 (4/14)
Chase Freedom - $3,000 (5/14)
AMEX Hilton HHonors - $16,500 (6/14)

Congrats!

I've been giving more consideration to a hotel card myself. I go out of town enough for weddings and such that getting a free night at some big chain for a sign-up bonus would be nice.

Out of curiosity, which Hilton AmEx did you get -- the one with the annual fee, or the one with no annual fee?
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

I got the one without the annual fee. The one with the annual fee only offers 1 additional bonus point for supermarkets, gas stations, and restaurants. It does give 5 more points for Hilton stays though. I just didn't want to pay an annual fee.

Yeah, that's probably the route I'd go too. I'm not a huge spender, nor do I stay at any one chain often enough to rack up bonus points for it. I know tons of people who make annual-fee cards work for them, but I'm planning on cancelling my only AF card (my Citi AAdvantage) next month. And the no-AF Hilton Hhonors Am ex looks pretty good, with the free Silver status and all.

I don't spend enough to justify annual fee cards either. I've looked at the Citi AAdvantage before, but I didn't want a card with an annual fee.
