Postby Groddod4 » Wed Jun 11, 2014 8:48 pm

I currently have a BCE $2000 CL 2013
If I ask for a credit increase will it be a soft or hard pull???

I use my credit card never go over 30%
And I use it as a charge card. I also have a gold PRG amex backdated to 2013 $NPSL
My credit score is 739

If you go to the website and initiate the CLI, and you see instant approval, then it's only soft inquiry. There are also other people attempting such and come up with denial, then it's hard inquiry. You should have no problem initiating the CLI.

I'm sorry but the information above that you were given is 100% WRONG.

Requesting a CLI is always a soft pull with Amex - they use the data from the last time they softed you. I speak as someone who has both been denied and granted a CLI with them.

PlyStar, I think you meant to tell him if he applies for a card, it's different but even then you have it backwards - if you are a current cardmember as he is, and it's declined it's a soft, and if it's approved then it's a hard pull. Again I speak as someone who has done this a LOT of times over the past couple of years. You are I'm sure trying to help but it's best if you know what you are talking about when you do. Telling people misinformation doesn't help. Not meaning to be rude here.

To the OP don't be afraid to ask for a CLI. If declined then work on the reasons. You have nothing to lose - even if they request documents from you, you can simply cancel the request or not provide them and no harm no foul. You will NOT get a hard pull. You should go for it as since you got it in 2013 you are well overdue. Just keep in mind that you can only get one CLI on all your cards combined every 6 months but I'm going to guess you have only the one revolver so you should be good.

Hope this helps go for it!

I am sorry if I didn't make it clear, I was indeed talking about requesting a credit limit increase and not applying for new card.

If initiating the CLI when not eligible (like less than 61 days from account opening, or not enough time after previous CLI request), the CLI request will not processed and there will not be hard inquiry. What I have seen is some people requested but got a pending message saying wait 7-10 days for response. Then, there is someone claiming to get a hard inquiry (myFICO), even if he ultimately got approved. I have also seen other people receive pending after requesting CLI and see hard inquiry alert from credit monitoring services, though I shall not post link since the source is non-English.

Really no need of quarrel, I just have seen people saying they get hard inquiry before, though generally it's soft. Back to the CLI issue, I agree that OP should not be afraid.

That is a very unusual case, not at all the norm then. It must be he was right on the border, as they will only ever pull multiple bureaus if you are borderline. Most will only see EX pulls. And the vast majority of people will never see a pull at all for a CLI request.

That's the only case where I've ever heard of this. It's clearly rare. As long as your house is in order so to speak, I would not give it a second thought.

But thanks for providing that link. It's good to know.
