charge vs revolver customer service

Postby MB131174 » Sat May 24, 2014 11:37 am

I think it's no secret that I'm somewhat of an AmEx hater, only for their lousy customer service. However, in all fairness, looking back I never had an issue when I called customer service when I had one of their charge cards. My issues only seem to be now that I have only revolvers from AmEx. So what did I do? Since it's been over a year since I've had a charge card with them, I went ahead and applied (and was approved) for the green card since I'd have no annual fee to pay for the year.

What's kept me from totally pushing AmEx out of my wallet was an experience I had a while back. I had a warranty issue with an item I bought from amazon, and I got nowhere with amazon despite the item being less than a year old. I called up AmEx and filed a claim with them. AmEx tried to resolve the issue with amazon to no avail, so they issued me a full credit for the item I bought. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd have gotten that level of satisfaction even from my beloved and overly used Hyatt visa signature card.

So basically I'm giving the AmEx charge cards another chance, and maybe change my opinion of American Express again. What do you guys think - is AmEx customer service better from their charge cards vs their revolvers?

With my wishy-washy relationship with AmEx, should I change my user name to MemberSince11? HAHAHAHAHA. Should I?

I've called both. I agree the foreign service is really just a small step above Cap One. But the American service is really good. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's a revolver or a charge card it matters the rep you get - it's possible that you just happened to get dumb reps with the charge cards and good ones with the revolvers. It's pretty much the same with any lender - the foreign service is almost universally horrid, and the American service ranges from ok to really great. That's been my overall experience.

If you really want decent service, if you get a rep in asia just ask to be transferred to US customer service. Then you should get good service.

Not sure on Green and Gold but it certainly is for Platinum and the Centurion. Getting a charge card for CS seems a bit much IMO when you could do what Member posts above.
